Rocklands man arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

In the early hours of Wednesday morning, 18 April 2018, members attached to the Mitchell’s Plain police were busy with stop and search operations in Buzzard Street, Rocklands when they noticed a suspicious looking man. The man started running down the street when he saw the police members. The members pursued the suspect and they saw him throw an item on a roof. They caught him and took him back to place were he got rid of the firearm, where they found a Browning 7.65 firearm with its serial number and six live rounds of ammunition.

The suspect, a 36-year-old man, was arrested.

The suspect will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court on charges relating to the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police operations will continue in the area to ensure the safety of community members.
