S Africans reminded to register to vote

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Des van Rooyen has reminded all South Africans who have not yet registered and provided their addresses or sufficient particularities, to do so before 17h00, on Monday, 23 May 2016, at the offices of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), in their local municipalities.

“As part of the preparations towards the successful Local Government Elections, the Voters’ Roll closes on Monday, 23 May 2016,” the Ministry of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs said on Sunday.

On Monday, 23 May 2016, Minister van Rooyen intends to gazette and proclaim the date of the coming local government elections.

This will allow for the commencement of the electoral processes in terms of the Election Timetable.

“Together we can strengthen our democracy by voting in the coming elections,” the Ministry said.
