UPINGTON – On Friday, 08 November 2019 police members conducted foot patrols, stop and searches as well as addressing community members on awareness of crime trends in the area. This operation forms part of the Safer Festive Season that kicked off last month and this campaign includes high police visibility in the central business area as well as the malls and shopping centres. The operation focussed mainly on prevention of crimes such as theft out of motor vehicle, ATM scams, shopliftings and drunkenness that leads to unnecessary assaults.

The parade was led by Brigadier Sampie Koopman with other senior officials from the ZF Mgcawu cluster office and the detective branch. In his address, Brig Koopman pointed out that the members must be prepared and operationally ready for the festive season and that more operations of this kind will continue in this period. He also mentioned that, Theft out of motor vehicle and ATM scams are a great concern and the problem must be addressed effectively by alerting the community about the safety measures to avoid possibilities of being victims and incorporating other measures of prevention to ensure success.
