EASTERN CAPE – Eastern Cape SAPS Senior Management once again led the Safer Festive Season Operations in the Nelson Mandela Bay on Friday, 24 January 2020 until the early hours of Saturday, 25 January 2020.

After the Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing, Major General Andre Swart addressed the parade at SAPS 10111 Centre in Port Elizabeth, the South African Police Service painted The Bay blue, with intentions of sweeping lawlessness in all corners of Port Elizabeth and surroundings.

The operation was manned by members from different police stations and units, who were determined to ensure safety of communities in the Nelson Mandela Bay.

Among the objectives of the operations was a strict raid of liquor outlets in various areas to ensure compliance. The operation registered the following successes:

Four (4) 5 litres Johannesbeger rain dance wine.

One (1) Brown Sedgewicks old brown Box containing nine (9) 750 ml bottles of old brown Sherry.

One black SAB Crate containing Twelve (12) black lable 750 ml beers.

Illegal shebeen closed. Liquor confiscated.

Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, applauded the work done by the SAPS members to ensure safety in the Nelson Mandela Bay. She further urged the community to work with the police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) in the fight against crime. “I am very impressed by the work done by the members in the Nelson Mandela to ensure stability and safety of communities. The community has a critical role to play in the fight against crime, hence we urge them to work with us and the CPF to curb crime in our communities.” she said.
