Humansdorp: The intensification of high visibility patrols by multi-disciplinary forces in the Humansdorp area has yielded positive results, as fines valued over R52,000 were issued during Safer Festive Season Operations last night, 31 October 2025. A total of 50 people were either fined or nabbed for offences ranging from traffic offences to the contravention of the Immigration Act.
According to South African Police Service, the multidisciplinary forces comprising the police, Home Affairs, Zibar Security, Kouga Local Municipality Traffic and Law Enforcement officers painted the area blue through an aggressive crime prevention approach, leaving no room for criminal elements to operate. The following successes were recorded: three suspects were arrested for possession of illicit drugs, seven spaza shop owners were fined for contravening municipal by-laws with fines totaling R15,500, and twenty-eight motorists were fined for various traffic offences, amounting to R37,400. Additionally, ten foreign nationals are facing deportation for contravening the Immigration Act.
A tavern owner was also served with a compliance notice for leaving an unregistered manager to run a liquor outlet. Acting Sarah Baartman District Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo, praised the efforts of the involved forces, stating, ‘For this operation, we were just displaying our level of readiness with our partners. The district will be launching its Safer Festive Season Operations in Graaff Reinet next week, more partners will join our operations, as we prepare to heighten our operations during this time of the year,’ concluded Brig Naidoo.
