SAPS chess players from around the country were at Letshego and Tshwarelela Primary Schools in Galeshewe this morning where they donated five chess boards to each school in a move to get the young learners to be interested in the sport. The police officials are from the nine provinces including Head Office and are currently in Kimberley, Northern Cape where the SAPS National Chess Championships are held.

This is an initiative by the SAPS that is inspired by the saying “A child in sport is a child out of court.” It comes at the backdrop of an event where eleven-year-old Amahle Zenzile from Cape Town was selected to represent South Africa at the African Youth Chess tournament that will be held in Namibia soon.

Constable Motseki from Galeshewe Police Station also formed part of the delegation that went to Letshego Primary School and he used the platform to encourage the learners to participate in any form of sport as it will help them to avoid using drugs.

The initiative was welcomed and appreciated by both schools and was ended with the games between the learners and the men and women in blue.
