EASTERN CAPE – In an effort to eradicate the rampant crime in a crime ridden Bityi area in the OR Tambo District, the Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has taken a decision to augment the deployment of forces by bringing in an Intervention Team which is to camp in the area for a couple of months.

The operational deployment in Bityi is part of a determined effort by the South African Police Management in the Eastern Cape to intensify strategies to enhance successes and customer satisfaction. Additional physical and human resources have been deployed to give impetus to this intervention for better results.

On Sunday, 03 May 2021, SAPS management in concert with the local traditional leaders welcomed the forces from various parts of the Province at Mqhekezweni Great Place. Today, the forces hit the ground running as they took the tour of the area in what was described by operational commanders as “Operational Orientation” in the rural villages of Bityi and surrounding.

Among the objectives of the operations is to ensure the rule of law, sustained peace and stability and customer satisfaction in the area. Most exciting to the community was the presence of more security forces in their villages which heightened their hopes for a lasting peace and arrest of those who continued to unleash a reign of terror within their communities.

Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has hailed the TRT, Public Order Policing, Detectives and Crime Intelligence members who have recovered numerous illegal fire-arms and drugs in the area in recent months, for their readiness to stamp the authority of the state in the hot spot areas. The villages include Julukuqu, Rhune, Msane, Gunjane, Gxwalibomvu and Tyelebane. Trucks and Caspers will be stationed in all the identified villages to service the communities.

These Operations will run for as long as the police and community are satisfied that the objectives of the deployments have been achieved. Peace and Stability will determine the continued stay of the forces in Bityi.
