SAPS investigates a case of malicious damage to property following service delivery protest in Makhanda

EASTERN CAPE – Joza SAPS are investigating a case of malicious damage to property after community members set alight a municipal vehicle on Monday, 12 April 2021 at approximately 15:40.

According to the complainant, he was busy dropping of employees between Ext 10 and Enkanini squatter camp in Joza location, when a large group of people stopped him and demanded the keys to the bakkie which he was driving.

When he refused to give them the keys, the group forced the driver out of the bakkie. He made his way through the crowd and ran towards the houses in Ext 10.

He then noticed that the bakkie was set alight by the community after which the group scattered into the residential area.

The bakkie valued at approximately R110 000 was completely damaged. No arrests have been made.

The community are warned not to resort to acts of lawlessness.
