LUSIKISIKI – As part of multi-disciplinary intervention on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, foot soldiers visited a number of churches around Lusikisiki today to address various issues relating to the scourge.

The primary purpose of the visits was to educate members of the respective congregations / ministries, and involve religious fraternity in the fight against GBVF, as they have a critical role to play in fighting crime, ensuring moral regeneration and promoting greater psychological well-being in the society.

Colonel Andiswa Mahlelehlele, who represented SAPS Senior Management described the initiative as an effective move to ensure impact in the fight against the scourge. “It is critical that we engage different stakeholders, inclusive of religious fraternity in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, and ensure impact, especially in rural communities of Lusikisiki,” she said.

She further explained the critical role of churches in enhancing moral fibre in every corner of their respective environments.

Men for Change utilised the platform to educate men about their responsibility to ensure social cohesion, harmony and stability, as well as respect for women over patriarchy in the society.

Respective churches and ministries appreciated the initiative and pledged to play the role in shaping psychological well-being in ensuring moral regeneration and safety in their respective environments.
