SAPS strongly condemns the fatal stabbing at Mpekweni Primary School

King William’s Town: South African Police Service strongly condemns the fatal stabbing of a 16-year-old Grade 7 learner at Mpekweni Primary School in Peddie.

It is alleged that at about 09:00 this morning, two boys were playing with each other in the school premises and the suspect, 15-years-old, was in possession of a knife. While they were playing, the suspect stabbed the deceased in the upper body. He was immediately taken to the nearby clinic for medical attention where he was certified dead on arrival. The circumstances surrounding the incident will form part of the investigation.

The 15-year-old has been arrested and is being processed in terms of the Child Justice Act.

Acting Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Maj Gen Andre Swart condemned the senseless murder of the young lad. SAPS members will continue to operationalize the implementation of protocol entered into between SAPS and the Department of Basic Education to ensure that Safer Schools Program is strengthened and visits and random searches are now intensified even to primary schools.
