SAPS Zambela members in shootout with robbers

Zamdela: Cases of murder, attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms have been registered following a shootout with the police which left one suspect dead, one wounded and one arrested.

Today at about 13:00, three suspects robbed Mr Simon Tsotetsi of R8000 cash on the R716 road. The suspects drove a silver Audio A3 and passed police members who were on the lookout for the vehicle on the way to R82 road. The police gave chase until at a four-way stop in Zamdela where the suspects stopped the vehicle. All suspects jumped out of the vehicle and started shooting at the police whilst running away in the direction of Amelia, Zamdela. The police retaliated and one suspect was shot dead and one wounded. The wounded suspect ran into Amelia and back up from TRT arrived. They followed him and the community pointed out where the wounded suspect was hiding. He was found with an unlicensed firearm hiding in a shack and was arrested. The third suspect was arrested by Vispol members.

Some of the stolen money was recovered from the first suspect that were in possession of two cellphones. The other money was found from the second suspect. The vehicle they were driving was stolen. Two 9mm firearms, 2 cellphones and cash were recovered and confiscated. The wounded suspect was referred to the local hospital under police guard. The arrested suspects will appear in court soon.
