Johannesburg: The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is urging all applicants for the disability grant to utilize their online platform for booking disability-related assessments. This initiative aims to facilitate access to SASSA services, allowing beneficiaries to save on transport costs and avoid lengthy queues.

According to South African Government News Agency, SASSA clarified that the program does not prevent beneficiaries and applicants from visiting SASSA offices. Those without internet access are encouraged to book their assessment in person at SASSA offices. Following the assessment, applicants can complete their applications online and submit the necessary documents. It is crucial that all documents are certified, valid within six months, and contain accurate information before uploading.

To safeguard against scams, beneficiaries are advised not to seek help from strangers and to protect personal information from unreliable sources. SASSA emphasized that if applicants encounter difficulties accessing services online, they are welcome to visit SASSA offices for assistance.

Eligibility for the disability grant includes being a South African citizen, permanent resident, or refugee residing in South Africa, aged 18-59, and undergoing a medical assessment confirming disability. Applicants must provide a referral form from a treating facility, undergo a means test with their spouse, and not be in a state-funded institution or receiving another social grant.

For inquiries, beneficiaries can reach out toll-free during working hours at 0800 60 10 11 or [013] 754 – 9428/9363 from Monday to Friday, and via WhatsApp at 082 046 8553.
