Serial rapist handed 5 life sentences, Nelson Mandela Bay

NELSON MANDELA BAY: The 30 year old Vusumzi Snyman of Kwazakele, was today sentenced to five (5) life sentences and another 20 years sentence for rape in the PE High Court.

This followed after he was linked with DNA in 7 rape cases (4 from Kwazakele and 3 from New Brighton). His modus operandi was to kick open doors and raping and robbing his victims at knife point. The court also handed him a further 53 years sentence for the robberies. His victims were between the ages of 21 and 60 years which happened in the period between 2011 and 2014.

Both the local Motherwell Cluster and Eastern Cape Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units were investigating these 7 cases and were present during the sentencing today.

The Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie applauded the two units for their excellent detective and investigation skills and added “suspects thinking of committing these offences will now be discouraged knowing that long prison sentences are given to rapists”
