WESTERN CAPE – Police visibility continue to yield remarkable successes in the Nyanga area.

Five suspects were arrested this morning at about 09:30 in connection with an Isuzu LDV which was reportedly stolen earlier today in Harare, Khayelitsha. Acting on information on the whereabouts of the stolen vehicle, members of the Western Cape Flying Squad spotted the vehicle parked at a shopping mall in Browns Farm. Next to this vehicle was a silver grey Polo with five occupants inside. While the members were monitoring the vehicle they noticed one occupant taking out items from the Isuzu LDV and putting it into the Polo Vivo.

Police ambushed the suspects when they exited the parking area of the mall. They pulled the vehicle off the road, searched the occupants and the vehicle, and recovered a car battery, a Sony CD Player and a spare wheel releaser. When questioned about the items, the suspects informed the police that they took the items out of the stolen LDV.

Members tested the Polo vehicle and the number plates were linked to a vehicle which was positively reported as stolen in Pretoria West in December 2018. When they tested the disc of the LDV it came out as positively stolen today, Wednesday, 03 July 2019, in Harare, Khayelitsha.

All five suspects were arrested and detained for the possession of a stolen vehicle and stolen property.

The sixth suspect, a 28-year-old male was also arrested this morning for theft of a motorcycle that was stolen last night whilst parked at a residence in Sagoloda Street in Browns Farm.

On Tuesday evening, the members were busy with crime prevention duties when they responded to a radio broadcast of a vehicle that was hijacked in Crossroads. Following up on information on the location of the vehicle, they recovered the Toyota Etios in Nontsikelelo Street and arrested the 18 year old suspect for possession of a hijacked vehicle.

The suspects aged between 18 and 35 are due to appear in Athlone and Philippi Magistrate Courts once charged.
