Seven suspects arrested with copper wire and large quantity of counterfeit liquor

The Harrismith Highway Patrol successfully arrested five suspects from Kwazulu-Natal headed to Gauteng in possession of copper wire and large quantity of counterfeit liquor upon stopping and searching two suspicious vehicles on the N3 Highway outside Harrismith.
Apparently, on 13 November 2020 at about 03:00 the two members manning N3 stopped a white mini bus transporting large quantity of boxes of liquor from Kwazulu-Natal to Gauteng. Upon making through inspection they discovered that they were transporting counterfeit liquor to an estimated value of R117 000. All liquor and mini bus has been seized for further investigations. A case of possession of counterfeit property is being investigated.
Later on the same day at about 05:00 the two members stopped and searched a suspicious bakkie in which five suspects were travelling on north bound from Van Reenen towards Gauteng just outside Harrismith. The two police officers found 463.4 kg of rolled copper wire behind the bakkie to an estimated value of R50 000. The copper wire and bakkie were immediately seized and all five suspects arrested.
A case of possession of suspected stolen property is being investigated. The five suspects will appear before the Harrismith Magistrate court on Monday, 16 November 2020 facing charges of possession of suspected stolen goods and other two on charges of possession of counterfeit goods separately.
