Several suspects arrested in Grassy Park

Western Cape: In their endeavours to strengthen the relationship between the police and the community, police members attached to the Grassy Park Crime Prevention Unit followed up on information received that counterfeit money was being manufactured at a residence in Parkwood. On 2018-05-25 at about 18:00 members searched the premises and found equipment used to manufacture counterfeit money, like copy machines, an FNB swipe machine, toners and laptops.

Counterfeit R200, R100 and R50 notes found at the scene were handed in at Grassy Park SAPS. Two suspects, aged 28 and 30, from Parkwood, were arrested on charges related to the manufacturing of counterfeit goods.

On Sunday (2018-05-27) at about 08:00 Grassy Park Vispol members were attending to complaints and doing patrols in 8th Avenue, Lotus River, when they spotted a black Bantam LDV with only one number plate, and several men on the back. The vehicle was tested and came up positive as having been stolen according to a Mitchell’s Plain case registered in May 2018.

Eleven suspects aged between 19 and 24 were arrested on a charge of the possession of a stolen motor vehicle. The suspects are affiliated to a rival gang in Lotus River. Two of the suspects are being sought on outstanding warrants.

Earlier today (Monday, 2018-05-28) at about 07:40 newly appointed constables were busy doing robbery patrols in the Parkwood area, when they spotted two suspicious looking men. Upon searching the men police found a black Rossi firearm with a serial number and one round in the possession of the one suspect. The 26 year old suspect was arrested and will face charges of possession of an illegal firearm and possession of ammunition. The second man, aged 28, was arrested on a charge of possession of an imitation firearm after he had been searched and a black plastic firearm was found on him. Both suspects are affiliated to rival gangs in Parkwood.

All of the above-mentioned suspects will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on related charges.
