Johannesburg: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has announced a Yellow Level 4 Warning for severe thunderstorms expected in several regions of South Africa, including Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday.
According to South African Government News Agency, the severe thunderstorms are anticipated to bring heavy downpours, which could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas, susceptible roads, and bridges. The warning also highlights the potential for localized damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, property, vehicles, livelihoods, and livestock, particularly in the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, the extreme southeastern Lowveld of Limpopo, and the northeastern parts of KwaZulu-Natal.
Additionally, a Yellow Level 2 Warning for severe thunderstorms has been issued for the Free State, North West, the eastern parts of the Northern Cape, and the extreme western parts of KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, excluding the extreme north, as well as the Highveld of Mpumalanga. These areas may also experience heavy downpours, leading to similar risks of localized flooding and damage to infrastructure and property.
