Severe Weather Alert Issued for Parts of South Africa

Pretoria:Gauteng: The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorms expected to hit Gauteng, the central to eastern parts of North West, and the central to western parts of Limpopo on Wednesday. These storms will be accompanied by heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and excessive lightning.

According to South African Government News Agency, these adverse weather conditions could lead to localized flooding, particularly affecting roads, low-lying areas, and bridges. There is also a risk of damage to infrastructure and settlements.

Additionally, strong winds may cause disruption in the Nelson Mandela Bay and Buffalo City District Municipalities, as well as the Ndlambe, Nqgushwa, and Sundays River Valley Local Municipalities. These winds could affect beachfront activities and complicate navigation.

In the Western Cape, the Matzikama Municipality, along with the Cederberg, Bergrivier, and Kamiesberg municipalities, is expected to experience extremely high fire danger conditions.

Looking ahead, the weather for Thursday and Friday is forecasted to be partly cloudy and cool, with isolated showers and thundershowers possible in the eastern and western regions of the country.

The public and stakeholders are urged to follow official SAWS forecasts and warnings closely, as further updates will be provided as more information becomes available. It is advised to avoid relying on unauthorized or unverified sources and not to share unverified information.
