Cape town: Infrastructure South Africa (ISA) is hosting the 5th Sustainable Infrastructure Development Symposium South Africa (SIDSSA) starting today, aiming to unite investors, financial institutions, policymakers, thought leaders, and other essential partners to further South Africa's infrastructure investment goals. This year's symposium, themed 'Shaping the future of municipal infrastructure', focuses on enhancing the government's ability to develop future-ready, resilient, and sustainable municipal infrastructure. According to South African Government News Agency, President Cyril Ramaphosa is convening the event, which gathers Ministers, large asset owners, leading private investors, fund managers, developers, technology innovators, key advisors, and others under one roof. SIDSSA serves as the annual flagship event organized by the Investment and Infrastructure Office (IIO) within The Presidency. The symposium will kick off with a site visit to the Cape Flats Recharge Project, led by Public Works and I nfrastructure Minister Dean Macpherson, along with other Ministers and Mayors from across the continent. The Cape Flats Aquifer Recharge Project is recognized as an award-winning municipal water project. Following the site visit, Macpherson and Head of Infrastructure South Africa Mameetse Masemola are expected to brief the media on the progress of Strategic Integrated Projects, the status of the Project Preparation Pipeline, and key milestones of the Adopt-A-Municipality Pilot Programme. Since its inception in 2020, SIDSSA has been instrumental in fortifying the national infrastructure pipeline, mobilizing funding, and addressing systemic delivery challenges. The 2026 edition of SIDSSA will highlight progress in Strategic Integrated Projects, Project Preparation Funding initiatives, and the Infrastructure Fund pipeline. It will also focus on advancing international partnerships and broadening investment opportunities in critical sectors such as energy, water and sanitation, transport and logistics, digital infrastructure, agriculture, and human settlements. The 2026 symposium will further emphasize ISA's ongoing support to provinces and municipalities, reinforcing infrastructure as a key driver of sustainable economic growth.
