Six Hijacking Suspects Nabbed in Multidisciplinary Operation

Carletonville: Six suspects aged between 28 and 48 were arrested during a multidisciplinary, cross-border, crime intelligence operation by the Provincial Anti-Gang Unit, Drug Task Team, and private security companies on the R559 road, between Carletonville and Randfontein.

According to South African Government News Agency, the operation also involved the Johannesburg K9, Tactical Response Team (TRT) Klerksdorp, Detectives, and the Gauteng West Rand District Rural Safety. The team acted on a tip-off and operationalized information regarding a planned hijacking of a truck transporting meat from Potchefstroom, with an estimated value of more than R500,000.

The team intercepted the suspects shortly after the truck was hijacked at about 07:45 on the R559 road, confiscating the truck loaded with meat. Additionally, police confiscated three more vehicles allegedly used in the commission of the crime, as stated by the South African Police Service.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Carletonville Magist
rate’s Court on Monday on charges of hijacking and kidnapping. The Acting Provincial Police Commissioner, Major General Ryno Naidoo, commended the team for their coordinated and multidisciplinary approach in combating and preventing crime, which led to the arrests.
