Six suspects behind bars on failed planned armed robbery

CLOCOLAN – The Clocolan police have arrested six suspects from Welkom and Virginia in possession of two firearms and an airgun following a foiled armed robbery in the area.
On Friday, 23 September 2022 the police received information with regard to four unknown males from Welkom who arrived at Extension 6 Clocolan who were armed with firearms.
It is further alleged that the four males were planning to commit business robberies at foreigner nationals’ shops. The police followed up information and activated local police, K9 Unit and Detectives together with security companies.
The house was identified where the suspects were waiting, the house was searched and five males from Welkom and Virginia together with the owner of the house were found and arrested. The police seized two unlicensed firearms and an airgun. The two firearms will be circulated to established their origin and further forensic investigation will be conducted.
The six suspects aged between 32 and 52 are expected to appear before Clocolan Magistrate court on Monday, 23 September 2022 facing charges of possession of unlicensed firearms.
