Sixteen arrested in stabilisation operation

DURBAN Pietermaritzburg police officers conducted a stabilisation operation in the Central Business District with the aim of getting rid of drugs and criminal activities in the city. The police officers targeted known hot spot areas and raided several premises.

A total of twelve suspects were arrested for possession of drugs after they were found in possession of small heroin capsules, heroin straws and mandrax tablets. Two suspects were arrested for possession of dangerous weapons and a further two suspects were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property as well as theft of a motor vehicle. Six knives, 150 whoonga straws, 144 heroin capsules and four mandrax tablets were seized.

At Ekombe a joint operation was held by police following up on intelligence with regards to suspected stolen vehicles. One suspect was arrested after he was found in possession of a stolen vehicle. The said vehicle was reported stolen at Booysen in 2016. Two more vehicles suspected to be stolen were also seized in the area for further investigation.
