Son Arrested for Allegedly Killing Elderly Mother in Sebora Village

Polokwane: A 40-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 87-year-old mother in Sebora Village, within the Mashashane policing area. The arrest was made by officers from Mashashane Police Station, located outside Polokwane in the Capricorn District. The brutal crime was uncovered on the afternoon of Saturday, 28 June 2025.

According to South African Police Service, officers responded to a report from a concerned neighbor about the elderly woman, who had not been seen for over two days. Upon visiting the woman's residence, police discovered her dismembered body parts inside plastic buckets. Various items believed to be used in the crime were also located at the scene.

The suspect, her son, was apprehended after failing to provide a satisfactory explanation for the incident. The motive behind this act is still under investigation by the authorities.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, condemned the incident. She emphasized that the suspect should have protected his mother, rather than ending her life violently. Hadebe highlighted the broader issue of gender-based violence, calling for a united societal effort to tackle the problem. "The scourge of gender-based violence has reached crisis point. This pandemic needs all sectors of society to join hands with the police and confront this demon that continues to terrorize communities. Enough is enough," she stated.

The suspect is scheduled to appear in Seshego Magistrate's Court on Monday, 30 June 2025, on a murder charge.
