South Africa: New Spokesperson for President

Deputy Director General and head of the Private Office of the President, Dr Bongani Ngqulunga, has been appointed as President Jacob Zuma’s spokesperson.

Ngqulunga will act as spokesperson of the President from 8 May until further notice. He will also retain his functions as head of the President’s private office.

“Bongani Majola, who has been acting as spokesperson since last year while he served as Director for Media Liaison, has since been promoted to Chief Director for Communications and now heads the communication unit in the President’s office.

“The post was previously occupied by Ms Zanele Mngadi, who is now the Chief of Staff in the Ministry for Environmental Affairs,” the Presidency said on Sunday.
