Today at about 06:30, the security guards responded to an alarm in Ballito where a business robbery was in progress. Upon arrival at the scene a group of suspects opened fire fatally wounding a security guard and the other sustained injuries. The suspects fled the scene in their getaway white Mercedes Benz C class. Umhlali members gave chase and the suspect’s vehicle stopped at the Tongaat toll plaza. One injured suspect was arrested while the others fled the scene on foot. Police are still searching for the remaining suspects. The getaway vehicle was recovered as well as the stolen computers.

KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bhekinkosi Langa condemned the attack of the security agency members while executing their duties. We will not rest until we arrest all those who are involved in this crime. The arrested suspect will be profiled to see if he can be linked to other business robberies reported in Umhlali and surrounding areas,” he said.
