South Africa: Suspects to Appear for a String of Cases Including Murder

Today, 17 October 2016, two suspects aged 27 and 19, are expected to appear before the Lydenburg Magistrate’s Court for alleged murder, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition. This follows after the police in Lydenburg received information, at the wee hours of yesterday, about a man who was bleeding profusely at the Shell Garage next to a shopping complex.

They went to investigate and on arrival, they found two security guards who pointed to them a man who was lying on the ground facing up, wearing a blue T-shirt and brown trousers. While contacting the ambulance, they received information that there was another person who was also bleeding heavily at the same garage. They also went to investigate and found the second man bleeding from his mouth. He wanted to talk but could not because his teeth were falling out. The members who attended the scene gave him a pen and paper to write what happened. The victim wrote his name and further mentioned that he was driving a white VW Golf 1.6 which had been robbed from him by two unknown men. The victim was also able to give information to the police regarding the victim who was earlier discovered as he mentioned on the paper that they were together when the robbery took place.

The ambulance arrived as summoned to offer medical assistance to the victims. However, the first man was certified dead by that time and the second one was rushed to hospital. At that time, the police had already contacted neighbouring stations to be on the lookout for the Golf. The suspects’ luck came to an abrupt end when they were cornered at Machadodorp driving the same Golf infested with blood stains and were found with a firearm believed to have been used in the commission of the crime.

A short probe suggested that one of the suspects on whose possession the firearm was found, appeared to be the one who had shot the victims. The same suspect further made an admission to the police that in 2013, he committed a business robbery in Mashishing. More investigation regarding the miscreants is underway.
