South Africa: Zimbabwean National to Appear in Court for Murder of His Girlfriend

A 25-year-old Zimbabwean National is expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, 10 August 2016, for the alleged murder of his 41-year-old estranged girlfriend.

The suspect’s appearance in court follows his arrest on Monday, 8 August 2016 in Zeerust. The police were called to attend a complaint of murder where upon arrival at the scene, they found a woman lying on the ground with multiple wounds on her body. According to the information received, the victim and the suspect were engaged in an argument when the suspect took out an axe which he used to attack the victim. The Emergency Medical Response Services (EMRS) personnel were summoned to the scene and certified the woman dead.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane condemned the incident. She said that it is upsetting to note that women are mercilessly killed on a women’s month by their partners who are supposed to protect them. She said that the police will do everything possible to ensure that the suspects get severe punishment.
