JOHANNESBURG, Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA), an independent organization of leaders of some of the country’s biggest business organizations, has welcomed the appointment of an entirely new board at national power utility Eskom, saying it reflects Government’s commitment to transform State-owned enterprises (SOEs).

BLSA CEO Bonang Mohale said here over the weekend that the government should also address issues facing other State-owned companies.

Mohale said the decision to change the entire Eskom board was a clear display of commitment by the government to the transformation of SOEs in general and Eskom in particular.

She said: We had to start with this big elephant so that we can then go to SAA (South African Airways), thereafter we go to (railway, ports and oil pipeline company) Transnet and then to (defence equipment manufacturer) Denel and then to the SABC (South African Broadcasting Corporation).

The government announced a new board for Eskom on Saturday to be chaired by Jabu Mabuza, the current chairperson of Telkom, the semi-privatised South African fixed-line and wireless telecomunication services provider which operates in 38 African countries.
