SOUTH AFRICAN TRANSPORT MINISTER CONCERNED OVER NUMBER OF ROAD DEATHS

PRETORIA, Dec 16 (NNN-SABC) — South African Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has expressed concern about the high number of deaths on the roads so far this festive season.

Peters said here Tuesday that more than 480 people had already died on the roads since the start of December. She urged road users to be vigilant at all times and abide by the rules of the road.

“In terms of the figure that RTMC (the Road Traffic Management Corporation) has from the first of December to the 13th, we already had more than 407 fatal crashes,” she said. “A fatal crash is when an accident occurs/happens where somebody dies, and 487 of people lost their lives.
