SOUTH AFRICAN UNION DENOUNCES DONALD TRUMP’S STATEMENTS AGAINST CUBA

PRETORIA, The South African Congress Union (Cosatu) denounced today recent statements by US president Donald Trump against Cuba, which it described as an affront to the sovereign right of that people to freely elect its way towards development and progress.

In a statement in this capital, Cosatu expressed its strong solidarity with the Cuban people and support for its sovereign right to a system that has proven to help the poor, exposed the failures of capitalism in social justice and has developed a progressive Internationalism that helps human development and the struggle of peoples and the working class.

The policy to which the United States is returning under the presidency of Trump fails in the intentions of forcing Cuba to abandon socialism. After 50 years, why does he think he will do it now? asks the spokesman.

The document recalls that representatives of this group of South African trade unions participated in a recent African Solidarity Conference with Cuba held in Windhoek, capital of Namibia, where they expressed full support for that Caribbean country that clearly demonstrated its support during the dark days of colonialism and Apartheid.
