Speedy response by joint team leads to the arrest of two and recovery of animal feed

Two male suspects from Peddie aged 49 and 29 will appear in the Paterson Magistrates’ court today on charges of possession of suspected stolen property. They were both arrested in Paterson by members of the SAPS and a local Anti- Poaching team.
On Thursday 28 Janaury 2021 at approximately 22:30 information was received by the local SAPS of a suspicious vehicle on the Tygerfontein road. According to information the vehicle was driving out of a farm in the area.
SAPS members immediately mobilised all the necessary role players and followed up on the information that was received. The vehicle, a bakkie was spotted and stopped. On top of the canopy there were white bags stacked and on further investigation it was established that the bags contained animal feed. During a search procedure, more similar bags were discovered in the back of the bakkie. In total forty 50 kg bags of animal feed valued at R10 000 was seized.
The team continued with their investigations and traced the goods to a local farmer. The ecstatic owner who identified his property praised the team for the speedy recovery. He was unaware that the feed was stolen.
The Acting District Commissioner for the Sarah Baartman District Brigadier John Lebok praised the team for their efforts and said, “The entire community is going through trying and challenging times and incidents of theft impacts on their livelihood. Your vigilance and speedy response is commendable. Continue to serve the community with pride and dignity”
