WINDHOEK: The Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare (MGEPESW) condemned recent tragic incidents of violence against women and children in Namibia.

This was done in a media statement issued on Friday quoting Minister Doreen Sioka, who condemned violence against women, especially in light of the recent alarming murder cases.

‘The tragic death of Ms Angelique Delia Maasdorp, a victim who appears to have been ruthlessly murdered in her own home, and the harrowing discovery of an abandoned infant in the desolate dunes of Walvis Bay, underscore the urgent imperative to safeguard the most vulnerable segments of our society,’ Sioka stated.

She further noted that these incidents are a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against gender-based violence (GBV) in Namibia, stating, ‘We must come together as a community to condemn these acts, support the victims, and work tirelessly to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.’

Sioka called upon members of the public to be vigila
nt and report any suspicious activities or signs of violence to the authorities immediately.

‘The fight against violence, especially violence against women and children, is not an ‘us versus them’ issue, it is a ‘we issue’ that requires the collective effort of the entire community. We must stand together in our commitment to eradicate GBV and foster a society that is safer and more just for everyone,’ Sioka noted.
