The hearings of the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into allegations of State Capture reconvenes this morning with former minister Barbara Hogan in the hot seat.

The former minister of Public Enterprises will give her testimony where she is expected to share with the nation what events led up to her dismissal.

Hogan, who was replaced by MalusiGigaba in October 2010 by the former president Jacob Zuma, is one of the high profile people to appear before the commission.

Last week, the commission heard testimony from the former finance minister Nhlanhla Nene, who told the commission that he believed that he was recalled by former president Jacob Zuma because he refused to toe the line on certain projects that could have benefited the controversial Gupta family who are at the centre of the investigations.

The Commission will also hear the testimony of the current Minister of Public Enterprises PravinGordan on Friday.

The legal team is in the process of identifying and/or consulting with another witness whom will be called to appear before the Commission over the next few weeks, the commission said.

The commission’s chair and Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo has been making an impassioned plea to Cabinet Ministers, Deputy Ministers, Members of Parliament and senior government officials to come forward and testify in the commission as it is important for the nation to get to the bottom of the alleged corruption.

The commission is investigating allegations of State Capture, corruption and fraud in the public sector, including organs of State.

According to the terms of reference, the commission will investigate whether, to what extent and by whom, attempts were made, through any form of inducement or for any gain whatsoever to influence members of the National Executive, including Deputy Ministers, office bearers and directors of the boards of State-owned enterprises (SOEs).
