The Mosselbank River Conservation Team, together with members of the City of Cape Town Solid Waste Educational Awareness Team, encouraged the local community in Greenville to dress up as superheroes and take part in a much needed clean-up exercise following the festive season.

The event was a great success and the volunteers helped collect the following:

80 bags (320 kg) of mostly household waste (illegal dumping)

110 bags (30kg) of recyclable bottles

In the November 2018 Subcouncil meeting, Subcouncil 7 acknowledged the Mosselbank River Conservation Team for the work that they do to keep the riverbanks in Fisantekraal clean and pollution free.

The team is made up of eleven volunteers and is managed by Danielle Sterrenberg from Garden Cities.

The clean-up projects aim to educate the community about how illegal dumping and littering impacts on their quality of life as well as the environment, and instils the values of recycling.

The initiative has since been expanded to the surrounding areas to combat illegal dumping and littering.
