Suspect appears in court for numerous cases in Jericho

POTCHEFSTROOM – A 33-year-old Kagiso Zaphiro Mothibe, made his first court appearance in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 16 March 2021 and will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Thursday, 25 March 2021. A second suspect is currently in hospital (under police guard) and will be charged as soon as he is discharged from hospital.

Mothibe’s court appearance stems from an incident reported on Sunday, 14 March 2021 at about 10:40 in Reserve Section Legonyane, Jericho. Police, who were attending to a complaint, received information that two suspects involved in a house breaking were hiding in a shack. The members proceeded to the address and found two men inside the shack. The men were interviewed by the officers and a scuffle ensued. One of the suspect grabbed a police firearm and pointed the police with it. The other police officer fired a shot towards the armed suspect, who thereafter fled, however, both suspects were apprehended.

Mothibe was charged for house breaking and for breaking at a business (tuck shop). A plasma TV and groceries were recovered by police.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, applauded the members involved for their vigilance and bravery that resulted in the arrest. He condemned the attack on the police officials and said it will not be tolerated as it is regarded as an attack on the State.
