Suspect arrested and firearms recovered

PORT ELIZABETH – The proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition in Port Elizabeth is a priority for police. In our efforts to clamp down on the serious and violent crimes committed with illegal firearms, Kabega Park SAPS and the Anti-Gang Unit arrested a 24-year-old suspects in Kuyga, and confiscate firearms.
It is alleged that Kabega Park crime prevention obtained a search warrant for a house in Wentzel Street, Kuyga. On Friday, 28 August 2020 at approximately 22:10, the search warrant was executed with the assistance from the Anti-Gang unit. Upon searching the premises, the members recovered and confiscated two bullet proof vests from private security companies, three rifles, two 9mm pistol, ammunition and holsters. The 24-year-old suspect was arrested on charges of Illegal Possession of firearms and ammunition and for possession of suspected stolen property.
The firearms will be sent to ballistics for further analysis. The suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate Court on Monday, 31 August 2020.
