Suspect arrested for post bank robbery

NORTHERN CAPE – The Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team arrested a 28-year-old suspect for business robbery on Monday, 04 July 2022.

It is alleged that two unknown suspects entered a Post Office branch in Mankurwaneng, Vergenoeg early on that day. The suspects pointed employees with what looked like a firearm and stole an estimated amount of R230 000-00. Community members followed the suspects and managed to arrest one suspect at a nearby house, not far from the crime scene. The suspect was found with an amount of R110 000-00 in his possession.

Major General Kholekile Galawe, Northern Cape DPCI Provincial Head, commends members of the community for their assistance. “When the community and police work together, the result is of mutual benefit and it is appreciated” said General Galawe.

The suspect is expected to appear before Galeshewe Magistrate Court on Wednesday, 06 July 2022. Hawks are still on the trail of the second suspect and the investigation is continuing.
