Suspect arrested for theft of cattle

DURBAN – On Saturday, 3 August 2019, the Vryheid Stock Theft Unit and Vryheid K9 Unit conducted an intelligence driven operation at Zululand following up on intelligence of stolen livestock. The operation lead the police officers to Ceza area where they found five suspected stolen cattle.

This operation follows the recovery of two suspected stolen cattle on Friday, 2 August 2019 at Ceza. It is alleged that while the Nongoma Stock Theft unit was conducting proactive operations in their area to curb theft of stock, they intercepted a vehicle towing a trailer with two cattle. The driver was questioned with regards to his possession of the cattle, however provide police with a satisfactory explanation.

With the assistance of the brand-mark on the cattle, the police officers managed to trace the owner who identified the cattle as his. He was also in a position to identify those cattle that were recovered on Saturday as well. All the recovered cattle were stolen from the grazing field at Ngome policing precinct last month. One suspect (34) was arrested and linked to the theft of the cattle. He will appear in the Louwsburg Magistrate’s Court soon facing charges of theft of livestock.
