In line with our Back to Basics approach of targeted and informed deployment of resources, SAPS Humansdorp and Kareedouw members continued with their actions to seize drugs and arrest those culprits involved in drug peddling in the Humansdorp Cluster. In the first success, members from SAPS Kareedouw attended to a complaint at 11:45 this morning at an informal home in Clarkson. Upon investigation members found about 105 dagga trees outside and loose dagga that was already harvested inside boxes and a 50kg bag. Value estimated over R50 000. Members arrested a 33-year-old male on a charge of cultivation of dagga and he is due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, 22 March 2019.
About 15 minutes later, alert members from SAPS Humansdorp was busy conducting routine patrols on the N2 at 12:00 today, 21 March 2019, when they pulled of a truck and searched the belongings of a passenger. The 34-year-old hitchhiker was found in possession of 480 khat plants.
The estimated value of the khat was established to be about R2400-00. The 34-year-old male suspect is also due to appear in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Friday, 22 March 2019 on a charge of illegal possession of khat.
The Humansdorp Cluster Commander, Brigadier John Lebok commended the police officials for the successes and said: We will continue with our actions to effectively clamp down on drug dealers who destroy the innocent lives of our community”.
