HANOVER PARK – Our mission to remove firearms from our communities yielded positive results when members of Philippi SAPS responded to complaints of shootings in Halmans Walk, Hanover Park at about 21:45 last night. The vigilant members saw two suspects running and apprehended one suspect.

The 21-year-old male was found in possession of two firearms a silver Baikal cal.380 9mm pistol with serial number filed off with one magazine and a black 7.65 Browning pistol with serial number and nine rounds of ammunition.

The suspect was arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition and a prohibited firearm and will appear in court once he has been charged. The confiscated firearms will be sent for forensic examination in order to determine if the firearms were used during previous reported firearms related offences.
