Suspect in custody for drugs

DURBAN Provincial Drug and Firearm Unit are continuing to fight drug trade in the province. Their persistence yielded progressive results yesterday when they recovered drugs in the premises on Gillepsie Street in Point.

Police acted on an intelligence driven information when they found a 39-year-old male in possession of 1700 tablets of ecstasy, 83 mandrax tablets and more than 98 grams of cocaine powder in his possession. He was immediately arrested and charged for possession of drugs. He was taken to Point police station for detention and he will appear in the Durban Magistrates Court tomorrow. The recovered drugs have an estimated street value of R140 000.

Another operation was conducted by Verulam police as part of the Operation Fiela within their policing precinct last night. The operation resulted in the shutdown of six illegal liquor outlets and the seizure of liquor. The arrest of five suspects for possession of heroin capsules, two males were arrested for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, another suspect was arrested for armed robbery.

Police proceeded to Ireland Street where they found two males with a TLB machinery suspected to be stolen. Two males aged 36 and 37 were arrested and charged for possession of suspected stolen property. All the arrested suspects will appear in the Verulam Magistrates Court tomorrow.
