Suspect linked to murder nabbed with stolen vehicle and firearm

DURBAN With festive season operations in full swing, police officers are working tirelessly to ensure that criminals are brought to book.

Yesterday police at Chatsworth acted on intelligence with regards to a man in possession of an unlicensed firearm and stolen vehicle. The vehicle was spotted in the vicinity of Welbedacht West in Chatsworth. As the man alighted at a dwelling, police swiftly arrested the 45-year-old suspect for unlawful possession of a .38 revolver with five rounds of ammunition. Police also seized the vehicle which he was travelling in as it was established that the vehicle was stolen at Inanda during November 2019.

Further investigations revealed that the suspect was wanted for a murder and rape case reported in the Mariannhill policing precinct. The suspect appeared at the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court yesterday and he was remanded into custody until 6 January 2020.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula commended the team for the arrest of the suspect. We continue to appeal to anyone who may have information on crime to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111. We also encourage people to download the MySAPS App on any iPhone or Android device.
