Suspect raiding operation leads to apprehension of over 400 suspects

POTCHEFSTROOM – In ongoing efforts to bring alleged crime perpetrators to justice, detectives in the province arrested 490 suspects since Monday, 22 until Friday 26 March 2021, for different crimes during provincial suspect raiding operations.

Of the 490 arrests, 299 were for contact crimes such as murder, rape, assaults with intent to do grievous bodily harm, common robbery, sexual assault, assault common and attempted rape. The other suspects were held for various other crimes such as malicious damage to property, contravention of protection order, theft, burglary residential and business and stock theft. The suspects were arrested at all four districts and they include 59 that were effected by Specialised Units.

Meanwhile, most of the suspects have already appeared before courts while others are expected to appear on Monday, 29 March 2021.

The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena thanked detectives for the arrests.
