Suspected rhino poachers nabbed

DURBAN A joint multi-disciplinary operation conducted by police officers who were deployed in Hluhluwe and Mtubatuba proved to be fruitful when they arrested four suspected rhino poachers aged between 22 and 24 for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. Police acted on information received about the suspects travelling on the R618 along Khula Village in Matubatuba towards Dukuduku.

Police noticed the vehicle, fitting the description circulated and intercepted the suspects. During a search of the vehicle, police found a rifle, binoculars, ammunition, a home-made silencer and cellphones. The suspects were arrested and charged for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. They will appear in court soon. Investigations are also underway to establish if they are linked to other crimes in the area.
