Suspects apprehended for different serious offences in Nyanga

WESTERN CAPE The continuing efforts of police to eliminate criminal elements in Western Cape communities resulted in magnificent successes over the weekend in the Nyanga policing precinct.

Swift response from police members resulted in the arrest of four suspects, aged between 33 and 65, after they assaulted and stabbed an unknown man in Mahobe Drive, Zwelitsha, Nyanga on Monday evening, 09 December 2019 at about 19:00. Members were conducting patrols in the area when they were informed about suspects that were assaulting the victim. The members rushed to the scene and upon arrival, they found the deceased who succumbed to his injuries just after he had pointed out the suspects. The four suspects were arrested. It has been established that the suspects arrived with the deceased in a vehicle and had assaulted and stabbed him at the scene.

The suspects are expected to appear in Athlone Magistrates Court this week on charges of kidnapping and murder.

Furthermore, ten suspects are due in court this week following their arrests for crimes ranging from house robbery, possession of an illegal firearm and possession of a hijacked vehicle.

Four suspects, aged between 20 and 23, were arrested just after midnight in Ntlangano Crescent, Nyanga for possession of an illegal firearm. Police members were patrolling the area when they received information about a white Avanza which had attempted to hijack a vehicle at the aforementioned address. When members arrived on the scene, they spotted the vehicle, searched it and found a firearm hidden in the steering wheel compartment. The driver could not produce a licence, therefore he and the other occupants were arrested and detained.

Meanwhile, two suspects were arrested for separate house robbery incidents. One suspect, aged 20, was arrested for a house robbery incident that occurred last month in Makhosi Crescent, Browns Farm. According to reports, the complainant was awoken by four men who pointed him with a firearm and instructed him to cover himself with a blanket. They then ransacked the house and left with several valuable items including two cellular telephones.

Another suspect, also in his twenties was arrested on a different house robbery case which occurred on Sunday morning in Mnyamanzi Street in Browns Farm. The complainant heard a noise coming from her dining room and when she went to investigate she saw a suspect who pointed her with a firearm trying to flee out through a window. The suspect fled with a television set but the complainant managed to give the description of the suspect which led to his arrest.

Police members recovered a vehicle early this morning, 10 December 2019, in New Crossroads, Gugulethu that had been reported hijacked last week Wednesday, 04 December 2019, in Eisleben Road, Crossroads, Nyanga. Five suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of a hijacked vehicle.

All ten suspects are expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrates Court tomorrow on mentioned charges.
