Suspects arrested for business burglary

EASTERN CAPE – Two suspects aged 27 and 35 years old are expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrates’ court tomorrow, 13 April 2021, on charges of possession of suspected stolen property after TV’s and appliances were stolen from a furniture store in Govan Mbeki Avenue, Central on Sunday morning, 11 April 2021.

It is alleged that at about 08:00 the suspects broke into a furniture store by forcefully opening a roll-up garage door and stealing approximately R150 000 worth of television sets (20) and other electrical appliances. SAPS Humewood detectives followed up on information and spotted two suspects running in the direction of Upper Hill carrying TV’s and appliances. The suspects were arrested and in their possession were three (3) TV’s, a portable air cooler and a music system. The goods were handed back to the retailer.

More arrests are expected.

The suspects were detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property. Additional charges of housebreaking could be added at a later stage of the investigation.

Police are urging the community, especially our second hand dealers to be on the lookout for persons attempting to sell them new TV’s and appliances. Buying second hand goods also places the need for buyers to make sure that the goods they are purchasing is from a legal seller or owner. Failure to do so and buying stolen property could land buyers in hot water and even criminal prosecution according to criminal law.

Any person that can assist police in this investigation can contact the Humewood Detectives, Constable Adriaan De Lange at 073 226 7816 or remain anonymous by phoning Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
