Suspects arrested for crimes committed in Steenberg, Khayelitsha and Mbekweni

WESTERN CAPE Efforts to curb the presence of drugs in our communities produced a successful outcome following a joint operation executed by the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit and forces attached to Operation Lockdown. Last night 03 March 2020 at about 18:22, members effected a search warrant at a premises in Hugo Naude Street, Cafda Retreat and while searching the premises discovered various drugs: Mandrax tablets; Tik ( Crystal Meth) and Dagga. The seized drugs are worth a substantial amount.

A 55-year-old female suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs. She is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Thursday 05 March 2020.

In a separate incident, on Tuesday 02 March 2020 at about 09:30, four suspects entered a cellphone store inside a shopping mall in Khayelitsha. An undisclosed amount of cash and cellphones were robbed from the business premises. The suspects fled the scene on foot, however, they were pursued and three of them were eventually captured by Khayelitsha police and Law Enforcement officers. The fourth suspect is still at large. An imitation firearm and a 9mm pistol with several rounds of ammunition were found in the suspects’ possession. Furthermore, the cellphones were retrieved, however, the money has yet to be recovered.

The three suspects, aged between 21 and 33, were arrested on charges related to business robbery, possession of an imitation firearm and the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court once charged.

In an unrelated matter, yesterday members attached to Mbekweni SAPS were conducting drug operations in the White City area. Members arrived at a known drug outlet and searched the premises. Upon searching, they discovered Mandrax tablets and Tik. The seized drugs are worth a substantial amount.

A 43-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs and appeared in the Paarl Magistrates Court today 04 March 2020.
