Suspects arrested for illegal possession of a firearm and drugs in Kraaifontein

Efforts to fight the increase of illegal firearms in the Kraaifontein area have once again resulted in a firearm recovered.

Kraaifontein SAPS members arrested a 21-year-old male for the illegal possession of a firearm at 07:15 on Sunday, 29 December 2019. The members received information while doing routine crime prevention patrols that an illegal firearm was being kept and drugs sold at a residential property in Park Street, Scottsdene, Kraaifontein. When they arrived at the location, the members saw a person fitting the description received attempting to hide something in the gutter at the back of the residence. After closer inspection, a pistol with several rounds of ammunition was discovered hidden in the gutter. The suspect was arrested and detained on possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition charges.

During the same operation, a 24-year-old male was arrested for the illegal dealing in drugs at the same residential property. The members searched a Wendy house and discovered mandrax tablets, ecstasy and cocaine, with a street value of more than R3000 hidden in the back of a washing machine. The suspect was arrested and detained on dealing in drugs charges.

The suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Regional Court and the Kuilsrivier Magistrates’ Court respectively on Tuesday, 31 December 2019.
