Suspects arrested for possession of dagga

FORT BEAUFORT – The efforts to curb the presence of drugs in our communities, has led to the arrest of two suspects in Fort Beaufort last night.
Yesterday, 13 September 2020 at about 20:00, SAPS members attached to the Operation Command Centre (OCC) in Fort Beaufort were busy conducting crime prevention duties in the area when they received an information about a vehicle carrying bags of dagga. They spotted the vehicle on R63 road between Fort Beaufort and Queenstown and upon searching they found thirty seven (37) bags of dagga to the estimated street value of R50000.00. It is alleged that the two suspects, aged 48 and 54 years, were coming from Kokstad to Port Elizabeth. They were immediately arrested and charged for possession of dagga. The vehicle and dagga were confiscated by Police.
These suspects will appear at Fort Beaufort Magistrate Court soon.
Amathole Acting District Commander Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu commended the members for the job well done in arresting these suspects and to ensure that drugs are off the streets. He also thanked the community for sharing valuable information with SAPS and encouraged them to report any criminal activities to Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or on the My SAPS App.
