Suspects arrested in Arlington tip robberies

PORT ELIZABETH Walmer police have made a breakthrough by arresting four suspects linked to cases of robberies that have been plaguing people at the Arlington tip.

On Thursday afternoon, 09 January 2020, three suspects were rounded up from Walmer location and detained for the alleged robbery of a 35yearold victim on 03 January 2020. It is alleged that at about 11:45, the complainant was at the tip offloading rubble when an unknown male approached him and threatened to stab him. Three other suspects approached. He was shoved to the ground and his cellphone and wallet was taken. While trying to defend himself, he sustained a minor cut to his hand.

Bernard Nkampeni (19), Thulani Yawa (26) and Lwandile Ngqobotyi (26) are positively linked to the robbery and appeared in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 13 January 2020. A fourth suspect was arrested last night, also in Walmer location. Masixole Njajula (19) appeared today in court. The four accused will again appear in court tomorrow, 15 January 2020, on a charge of robbery. Ngqobotyi has already been linked to two other cases reported in December 2019.

Walmer police are urging anyone who may have been attacked or robbed at the Arlington tip to contact them in an attempt to establish whether these suspects could be linked to their cases as well. Captain Charmaine Badenhorst may be contacted on 041 509 4022 or 083 671 6715.
